Drain Your Fuel/Water Separator Often

After reading posts about contaminated fuel, I decided to check the trucks:

- My 09 w/ about 4,800 miles had a couple of table spoons of water and no WIF light. Don't know how much it takes to set it off, but don't think I want to find out.

- My 02 w/ FASS had about a half pint of water at about 12K miles. Interesting the water was pure...no smell of diesel or oily residue. The water/fuel separator on the FASS is amazing

- need to check my wife's 03 and the 93 yet

Bottom line, problably not a bad idea to drain the water/fuel separator once a month.

doesn't hurt to be cautious.

also, ive noticed alot of sites have the 100gph and 150gph units at the same price...even though im all stock, wouldnt the 150 be a good buy? or is it too much flow on a stocker?

"K", my favorite parts person at Save Big @ Mopar4Less.com!! - Full Line Of Mopar Parts - (http://www.MOPAR4LESS.com) says the price of the new severe service fuel filter and fuel pump system for ISB6.7 Rams is $540. I don't know how that compares to the the aftermarket systems some are using but if I was buying one I'd give consideration to the system engineered by Dodge for our application.

Popping or Backfire under hood @ 70mph

Anyone know what would cause a popping or backfire that sounds like it may be in the exhaust system under the hood? I had this happen a few times while returning home, towing my 5th wheel trailer, (after traveling about 500 miles). It would pop a couple of times and the truck would jerk like a car with a miss. This happened a total of 5 times in about 30 minutes then never occured again the rest of the way home, (about 400 miles). A few days earlier in the trip we noticed a strong exhaust smell in the cab when stopping for red lights.

Anyone using Edge Insight on a 2009 CTD?

Is anyone already using an Edge Insight on their 2009 6.7L CTD 2500? I was looking to buy one and when visiting various Dealer websites they show it for use only up through 2008 build years. I emailed Edge and they said "no PN for a 2009"....not sure what that meant. Seems like it should be compatible since it is running off the OBDII protocol - right?

Anyone using it on a '09? Issues/problems?

Thanks

Couple of 2009 Questions

I purchased a new 2009 RAM 2500 CTD quad cab with the 68rfe in September to replace my 2003 CTD. Let me say that Dodge really got it right on this one! I have been nothing but impressed with this rig from day one.

I have a couple of questions:

First, I am noticing an issue with extensive brake dust build-up on the passenger front wheel after an extended highway trip. There is a marked difference in dust buildup on the passenger side vs. the driver side. I am going in Friday for an oil change and will this looked at, but wondered if anyone else had this issue.

Second, I wanted to know if the 68rfe circulates fluid in Park. My ’03 48re needed to be set in neutral to allow fluid circulation. Any guidance appreciated. Thanks

Denso Alternator PN for 220 amp

I just recieved my 2010 3500 C&C that I ordered. It apears that the guys in Mexico are leaving things off. I ordered the truck with the front hood protection shield, it was not installed on the truck or in the truck. I ordered the trailer brake controller harness, not in the truck. I ordered the Snow plow Prep Package whick is to have a skid plate, none was installed. I ordered the Ambulance prep package with the 220 amp alternator. The alternator on the truck looks the same as a 136 (std) or 160 (snow plow prep) unit. It is hard for me to believe that such a tiny alternator can put out 220 amps. Does anyone have a truck with a 220 amp alternator? Do you have the numbers from the Denso tag?

Everything I ordered showed up on the sticker it just did not make it on the truck. The dealer is making good on everything so far but it is getting to be a pain. Guys check your truck over an make sure that you get everything that is on the sticker.

I talk to alot of pipeliners who HATE their fords & chevys. Granted they like to sit in their trucks and let them run all day, thats just not somethimg I do with mine. Sure it would be nice to get alot better fuel milage, but the numbers I get sure beat the heck out of what my Dad got with his gas burner 454. I'm a happy camper with this dodge, I just hope I can make it to the 500k mark so I can go buy another one...(if my wife lets me):-laf

Suppose I'm out in the boonies, way up in the mountains and it's a long way to anything that looks like a road, much less a highway. (I can dream, can't I?). But suppose I start getting those messages on the overhead about the DPF being 80% full, then 90% full. If I have on board air, and some tools with me, is it possible to remove the DPF, and blow enough soot out of it by using an air gun? Or will this damage the DPF? I'm asking before I get there, because I don't think they have WIFI out there. Of course, I'd dispose of the soot in an environmentally responsible way according to all local codes.:-laf
Or maybe I should build a nice hot campfire, put the DPF in the middle of it and burn the soot out?
