2000 Dakota electical questions

I have 2000 Dakota extra cab (2 doors) and the electric lock on the drivers door has failed again. The assembly that fails is the catch that bolts into the door. Specifically, The electric portion seems to jam and that disables the other functions (lock button, key, outside handle, inside handle). I have taken the assembly apart as far as I dare and I pulled a small gear segment out so everything now works normal except the electrical functions.

Rather than replace the assembly I am considering adapting an aftermarket system that attaches to the lock button rod. What I don't know is What is driving the factory door lock circuit. If its a computer module of some type than I would probably leave it alone or replace the failed assembly, rather than risk overloading the drivers in the comp module.

Does anyone have a manual and time to look up the door lock electrical schematic to see what the deal is?

I already know the pin out at the door connection:

Pin 1 Door ajar sense
Pin 2 Ground
Pin 3 Door unlock driver
Pin 4 Door lock driver.

Thanks,
Scott

Toy. Land Cruiser

Ok. I did it again. I found one of those deals you just can't turn down. Let me explain:

Me and the family are heading to a friends house to take the kids trick or treating at the high school. As we pull up the their house, their neighbor we know has a flatbed wrecker in their driveway. I see an older Toyota Land Cruiser getting ready to be moved onto the wrecker.

Being the curious type, I go over to see what's going on. They were having to move the vehicle so the new owner of the house could move into the space. Turns out, that the vehicle owner was just going to have it taken to a wrecking yard and gotten rid of and I, of course, asked why?

They didn't have room in their new place for it and they can't keep in on the street thanks to City ordinances so they were just giving it away. To a wrecking yard.

He asked me if I wanted it. I said Hell Yes. I didn't even ask what he wanted for it. I also didn't tell my wife. At first anyway.

So, now I am the proud owner of a 1981 Land Cruiser. It's got the 2F 6cyl motor, 4 speed manual trans. No rust anywhere I can see, and lots and lots of upgrades done by the previous owner. Not the least of which was the replacement factory gas tank for a 42 gallon aftermarket tank. The only body damage is to the passenger side doors which I can fix/replace.

Not knowing much about these vehicles at all, and after finding out it's been sitting for 4 years or so I am asking for some guidance.

I know the fuel in the carb is at the very least nothing but varnish so a carb rebuild is a no brainer. Other than that, and not counting simple maintenance items such as an oil change and possibly a coolant change, is there anything I should look out for that is unique to these vehicles in order for it to get running again? From what i have been told, the only thing it needs to be driveable is to get it running/tune up and new tires, registration, and insurance. Oh, and front seats. The drivetrain is all stock. Thanks!

Mark.

By the way, I'm having a 2 for 1 sale on my Scouts. I need them gone to make room for the cruiser. My version of "Black Friday" ;)

I need some help diagnoising a problem with my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The ABS light on the dash turns on and off intermitingly. I can't find the problem. The only thing that has been dome to this truck is having the battery replaced since it went dead.

Again sorry for this non-Dodge Cummins thread. Any help would be greatly apppriciated.

hope it will have more power than the 2.8 liberty engine. and maybe this bodes well for a deisel 1/2 ton truck in the next couple of years.

The other day my '95 S10 developed a rough idle and surges when driving. Started fine, drove it a few miles, and stopped, then noticed the problem. It sounds the way an engine with a stuck choke or bad float sounds. It does smell rich. The engine is the 4.3 Vortec V6 with the center fuel injection (under the manifold). This is not the TBI injection engine. I am still driving it to work, but fear it cold lay down on me at any time. The engine light came on, and I get a P1406 code, but havent been able to find any definition for this one. Wonder if this could be the pressure regulator. Anyone out there had this problem?

Ford: Heater fan either off or high - no in between

Hello Folks,
Once again I come to you asking for help with my company work truck. It's an 06 F-250. A few weeks back the heater fan control stopped working except on high. All the other positions are dead. I was told it was probably the heater fan resistor, located in the air box near the heater core. I took it out and looked at it - all the resistor coils look intact, but have some heat discoloration, which is probably normal. Is there a way to test these with a volt meter or ohm meter. Could it be the switch bad instead?

Thanks for your help,
Blake

(It was ram and smashed a year ago, fixed, but returned with a crooked wheel, alignment seems fine)

I am looking to buy another truck that is a extended cab. I have always stuck with Chevy gas trucks and Dodge cummind diesels. But am having a hard time finding a Chevy that is under 170K miles and under $5000. I have seen many Dodge 1500 gas trucks and found one that is a 96 SLT w 140,000 miles. From the photos it looks clear. Is there things I should look for that are problem areas on these trucks? Hows the trannys on them and what am I looking for a rebuild?

Again I only know Chevys which are cheap to fix. Thanks
