New member with 02 24 valve issues

First of all I want to say I am impressed with the ease of the registration process and all those involved made it a breeze.

I live in Arlington, Va and have a 2002 2500 ram 4x4 with a 6 spd. It has been a great truck up until the last few months. Intermitently at first and now frequently it loses power and throttle input is seemingly useless. It will maintain speed but wont accelerate if empty ( no load ). after anything from 5-60 seconds it will come back to normal. If the truck is loaded or towing it slowly loses speed until power comes back.

I have pulled codes and identified pump failure faults. I replaced the lift pump with an aftermarket unit leaving the old assmebly inplace but disconnected.

I still have power loss.

From what I have read I will need to replace the VP44. I have found BD diesel offers a rebuilt unit and today just discovered Industrial injection offers the HRvp44. I dont know which is better. I also am not sure if I should tackle the replacement myself.
