1st Gen or 94-98.4 12v ????

Hi i am a Ford diesel owner (I know Shoot me!!) I want a Cummins real bad to add to my collection. I really love the tough look and overall ruggedness of the 1st gen. but from what i hear they cannot produce the same power as the 94+ 12 valves. It is going to be used as a daily driver and BOMBED for truck pulling and basically to destroy all the dweebs with PSD Superduty's. I read about changing pumps to the newer type but what does this cost?? I found a real clean 93 4x4 at CC LE Green and Gold t with under 100kfor $10,500 . A local dealer has a 974x4 SLT at CC White /Silver 148K for $13,000 . I have my heart set on a 1st gen but the are next to impossible to find clean. What do you guys think i should do? Thanks BOB
