Fuel/Water Seperator - How to reach?

What's the simplest way to reach the control lever on the Fuel/Water Seperator - from the top down, from the bottom up, or through the wheel well?

If from the top, how can a "catcher" be held under the tubing?

If from the bottom, how do you reach the lever?

If through the wheel well, do you use a stick to operate the lever?

[I've only had this, my first diesel, a week!]
