Tell Us About Your Truck Addictions Contest (Ends: November 30, 2009)

Thank SWithrow for this next contest idea (SWithrow, a t-shirt will be sent to you for this idea; thank you):

It is time for some fun now that the weather is turning cool and you're spending more time indoors (behind your computer screen).

Give us the best reason/excuse you gave your spouse/significant other for why you just had to get that new part/upgrade/bling for your truck. (Note: feel free to even post a reason/excuse you dreamed of using, but never really did.)

Feel free to post a photo of the item and your truck.

Now hanging around Geno's Garage as long as I have, I *KNOW* there have been some very creative justifications for the purchase of stuff for trucks. I've even seen the staff at Geno's have to find an old box from another place like the grocery store to ship an order in with *absolutely no reference to Geno's Garage* anywhere on the box. We sort of thought a divorce might be in that guy's future. We were pretty sure it wasn't some *surprise gift* for his wife (snicker).

Let's hear what you've done to pull the wool over your spouse or significant others eyes!

Winner gets one year renewal to the TDR and $50 gift certificate to Geno's Garage (or a check for $50).

Good luck!

Robin

Robin - - - Just bring your wife to Geno's with you, and with a long face, drool over at the new mirrors you want for your truck. Works ALMOST every time, just like it did for me last month!

By the way, we are both VERY HAPPY with the new mirrors, the new (clean)hat was nice too!!!!

Denny is not lying. Poor Gail didn't have a fighting chance of getting Denny out of Geno's Garage without those mirrors. He was kind of like a kid at Christmas.

Thanks, Denny!

When I returned home from work recently, my better half asked what the mirror was for.

I ask her - "what mirror"

she says "the one on the porch, in the box"

I reply - "You're so sweet, I thought I'd get your christmas present early"

Or the excuse I gave her for buying a 1991 Chevy K2500 (i know - it's not a dodge):
"I didn't want you to have to shovel snow this year, it's got an 8' plow. Happy anniversary!"

Back in mid '03, I began to point out to my wife, how quiet the new third gens were at campgrounds. A little later that year, I told my wife I was going to be spending some money on a sound deadening project on the 2001.5 we had. I also explained how the entire interior was going to have to come out for all the sound deadening material. She said, "why don't we just get a new one?". That's how I ended up with the '04.5.

Here is a picture from the day my friend and auto broker was picking up the traded in 2001.5. The 2004.5 is already in the garage!

The best one for me would have been when I bought my Silverline 304 system from Genos.
I wanted a new system for my truck, so I made out like I was just trying to find a different muffler while my wife was present. (but with no success)
I called and talked to Robin at Geno's, and she referred me to thier direct contact at Silverline (Hal???) I called and talked with him, and he offered to sell me the 304 system for the 409 price.... All of this is happening right in front of my wife..... After getting off the ph. with Hal, spooled up some enthusiasm and told my wife.." WOW!, He offered to sell it to me for less than half price if I call and order it from Geno's right now!!!"
My wife, being a sale item type shopper... She bit on it, Hook, Line, and Sinker!!!...
Although, I'm STILL not sure how I ended up buying a friggin' $600.00 vacuum cleaner the next week??? Surely she didn't pull a similar stunt on me.... DOH!!!...

Well my dear husband has kinda given up on trying to understand my never-ending truck upgrades and quest for more HP, but I try to do it in "spurts" thinking he won't notice as much or it won't be as irritating to him! I tend to start hoarding boxes in the basement.

So some weeks ago while he was watching soccer down in our basement "man-cave" (timing and location is everything) I casually mentioned that the transmission was acting kind of strange, like I had no idea why (duh, lots extra HP on a stock 48RE tranny for over a year ), but that I had a couple of parts that might help, and that I'd like to get them installed, because that would definitely help the transmission (me vaguely motioning over at that innocent-looking pile of boxes in the corner).

Of course those "couple of parts" was a full rebuild with lotsa nice goodies!!! Well, I always pay for my own stuff of course, and that bit 'o fun sure cost a lot, but he never said a word! Actually I'm still waiting for the Aaaah, nothing like subterfuge.

Edit: nice transmission though lol

Thumbs up

Her: "what do you need that for."

Me: "Rip said I 'needed one.'"

I was at Source Automotive "helping" my brother get gottahaveits, gauges... and Rip said, "here this will fit your truck you needed one, if you don't like it return it. Send me the payment when you can." Oh, poop! That is how I got a DSS.

Rip Rook is an evil man, wives and girlfriends hate him.

Well it took me 20 years but I finally got the best upgrade ever in my life - a new 2009 Dodge Ram 2500 QC 4x4 with a CUMMINS!

First some background - I've worked at Cummins for 20 years now and because of a combination of needs vs wants, have never owned a Dodge/Cummins truck. Imagine spending 20 years working in a candy store and being diabetic! See it every day; touch em, smell it, but you can't have one. We are campers and last year bought our first travel trailer....a Jayco 23B Hybrid. Been towing it around with my 2WD GMC Sierra 1500 which was "ok", but was not cutting it.

Act 1 - While camping in KY one weekend we went to a local horse track to watch some races (Keeneland), and had to park in an open field. After some rain showers the field turned into a mud hole and (surprise) that old 2WD GMC just got buried. Needed help getting a truck out! The wife remarked that our next truck had to have 4WD....I never argue with her when shes right.

Act 2 - On a return trip from camping I came up "sick", and had to hand over the wheel to her for the drive home. She hates freeways; construction zones; and towing. Bingo - a trifecta on I-75 between Lexington and Cincy..... In a tough spot she was stuck behind a Motorhome going up a hill and was frustrated because she could not see. So I said to just pass it! That truck could not pass the MH going uphill and she had it screaming. I calmly noted that this would never happen with a diesel engine....

WHAM - "We're getting a new Dodge with a Cummins!".she says..."you've worked there 20 yrs and its about time we supported the company..." .."I'm not driving like this ever again!" So after $6k in rebates and another $6k in supplier discounts; we traded in the GMC and now have our own Dodge / Cummins.

I could just wet myself every morning when I see it in the garage!!! Boy did I ever marry the smartest woman on the planet....I'm truly a lucky man.

Since we purchased our new 2008 Arctic Fox 5th wheel I've been telling my wife that now we need an exhaust brake on the truck or we'll be installing new brakes every year. I finally got her to agree and on 3 Oct 09, we got a new PacBrake installed on my Dodge. I love it. Thanks Jim.

The injection pump broke a couple years ago. Rather than just getting the $1000 standard rebuilt pump I convinced my wife that the $2000 Blue Chip special X would be better due to increased mileage and their warranty.
