Need help with non ctd.

at the technical college that i attend, in my diesel tech. class, we've got a 6.5 td in a 3500hd pickup,
engine started running bad and finaly quit all together

, we changed fuel filter, bled injectors, etc. question is, when we got it started, it ran good enough, then couldn't get it running again (go figure

). are there any fuel system parts that fail regularly, anything that we are overlooking, truck is a '96 w/ electronic pump. (makes me want a cummins even more

) oh. yeah, we ran a scan tool on engine, and found no codes.
