Early B-series engine?

A friend of mine was at alocal junk yard and was told by the owner that he had 4 early B engines for sale They are 6 cylinder with a one piece valve cover and GM bell houseings They came out of UPS trucks I heard of a A-series that was used in bread trucks but cant find any info I need to repower a IH 706 tractor and $350 is as cheep an engine as Ill find If any one can help please do
