Massachusetts emission standards
Caught the following blurb from a newspaper article at http://www.lowellsun.com/Stories/0,1...654805,00.html

The Volkswagen Golf intrigued me initially because with a diesel engine getting 38 miles per gallon in the city and 46 mpg on the highway, it offered an annual fuel cost (less than $600) similar to that of a hybrid car.
One problem: You can't purchase or register diesel-powered cars in Massachusetts unless they meet the state's emission standards, and the VW models don't.

Is Mass's emission laws even worse than the big state of Calif. ??? A diesel getting upwards of 45 mpg can't be very dirty.
