cheese'n'rice... Ford own Cummins again...sorta long

Sittin' at the bar tonight, had only been there for about three sips of a beer. Phone rings, it's a guy I do some regular hauling for. His '05 Furd is broke down and he needs someone to go grab his other '05 Turd to switch. I ain't had enough to even consider it a problem (seriously, three sips) so I take off. I originally planned on taking my truck, but he wasn't sure hook-up height would work so I relented and took his.

Long story longer, he had an injector replaced earlier in the day. He had a load of spendy little heifers on at the time. Trailer sat loaded at dealer whilst they worked. Took off down the freeway and everything was cool...for a little while. He turned off the freeway onto a little narrow road, around a sharp curve nonetheless, when it died, dead. A guy in a Chevy pulled up behind him immediately and said, "I've got a chain, let's get this f#@*'er off the road." Nearly an hour later I show up with his truck and we switch, leaving the dead one for the tow-truck.

So, we're riding back home in his other Furd and naturally we start discussing trucks. I've known for years that they used to have a CTD ('95 me thinks) and the truck around it gave them lots of grief. Tranny issues up the wazoo. Now they run Furds, no matter what. They trade trucks in less miles than I put on in a year. Anyways, he says, "I wish they could put that Cummins in a Ford. Then you'd have somethin'. Ya know ...........(here it comes)...............FORD OWNS CUMMINS." My heart just sank. I thought this guy was smarter than that. I said, "no, they used to own x% and they sold it like 9 years ago." His reply, "no, they own 51%. So I just reiterated my previous statement and he relented 'cause I'm the one with no life who lives on TDR.

I didn't give him any grief about the Furd 'cause it seemed like he was having a bad enough day as it was.

His '05 that I drove empty to meet him just had a new tranny put in a couple weeks ago. He lost either reverse or all forward gears. Truck now has 31.3K

His brother had an '05 with tranny replaced last fall for same problem. Both had something simply fall apart, nothing broke or wore out. One lost forward, the other lost reverse, don't remember which. Both are F350 SRW PoS. The one that died is a F350 with F550 springs.

Now this is the 3rd POS that's given them grief in the last 4-5 mos. This one has a whopping 26K on the odo. 25yr. veteran mechanic that did the work had nothing flattering to say about the 6.0. They keep injectors and other spendy parts on hand 'cause they know they-a-gonna need 'em.

When will these people learn????
