fabricating in-bed fuel tank

If I was to weld up my own in-bed fuel tank what gauge aluminum should I use?

I was thinking about a tank made 3-4 inches high that would fit around my 5th wheel hitch and take up the front and back of pickup bed. I would then cover this tank with something more sturdy if I needed to remove my 5th wheel hitch to haul other objects.

Any thoughts.
