Did dealer dup my Dad?

My father just had his d-max serviced at the dealership before a trip this week. He just called me and asked if running the ULSD required a supplement from the dealer. Everything I have seen says no, the dealer said to do it every time the oil is changed. His truck doesn't require ULSD, but he went ahead and got the additive. Am I correct in believing this is a profit adder at the dealer? Thanks for the input.
