We have a couple of the 6.4 powerstrokes in some trucks at work. When ya open the hood it looks downright scary. Not looking forward to the day when I'm gonna have to tear into one. This engine really doesn't look much more user friendly. Guess only time will tell.

The photo shoot always looks great....Its amazing how you can dress up a pig and win a beauty contest!!!.. Lets put it in a 1 ton towing 20K up and down lease roads.... then let it idle for hours at a time and see whats left after 200k miles.

Yep, I remember all the glowing reports on the new Ford 6.0L engine in Pickup Trucks.com and how it beat both Dodge and GM to the top of the hill in their towing tests. We know how the 6.0L eventually turned out...

I don't believe it will last 200k miles with aluminum heads.

Did you notice the tiny connecting rods as compared to the Cummins connecting rods. Same old junk with a new name.

I hope for Ford and all their loyal owers that the engine works great and is reliable. Maybe they will start their own "Cash for Clunkers" program and take back all the 6.4L that they are STILL selling to unsuspecting customers and give them a Scorpion.

I would think they want to stay away from the Power Stroke name like the plague. I hope this is a good engine, but I still have my doubts. It seems they took a lot of what they learned from the last few versions of the PS and included it in the Scorpion. That can't be good!

Yes that was interesting. Looks to me like they took some things from dodge and chevy.

Im my opinion Ford screwed the pooch here. There is an inline six from International thats not much bigger than our beloved Cummins that could have been used. That V8 motor looks like a nightmare, gone are the shade tree days for sure.

I agree but the IH engine is probably too heavy for the Ferd platform and would require a complete redesign of the entire driveline. A low rpm inline six cylinder diesel that produces huge torque just off-idle would twist the Ferd automatic transmission, driveshaft, and differential into scrap metal. I suspect the high rpm torque of a V8 diesel is easier on an automatic transmission.

Thanks for all the info. I've been looking to seeing all the details on the new 6.7 Scorpion.
I very much like the in-valley turbo design. IMO, the only saving grace for a V/8 diesel.
Having said that, it is still so complicated, it scares me. This only makes me appreciate our in line sixes all the more.

That struck me as odd also... Maybe Ford is trying to rely on the reputation of the older 7.3L Powerstroke name... That might backfire on them. The 7.3 was a good engine, but since then they have had two different engine platforms with the same name fall apart!. Theres an old saying in the service industry that states," A happy customer will tell one or two people, an angry customer will tell EVERYBODY they come in contact with!" I think I would have dropped the P.S. nameplate and picked up the Scorpion nameplate.
Personally, I will just keep my 5.9..... Dead simple and proven design, durable, reliable, and getting 20-21 mpg on the highway!!...
