CUMMINS LAUNCHES 350-HP ISL FOR 4 X 2 SHORTHAUL TRUCKS

Joint Development with Allison Transmission Delivers Weight Savings up to 800 Lbs.

Columbus, IN - 22 Aug 2002

COLUMBUS, Ind. (August 22 2002) – Cummins Inc. today announced the introduction of a new 350-horsepower rating for its ISL engine, aimed at the 4 x 2 short-haul truck market.

The new rating, with 1050 lb-ft of torque, has been developed in conjunction with Allison Transmission to optimize the engine/drivetrain package and deliver substantial weight savings for increased productivity.

"The combination of the Cummins ISL 350 and the smooth-running Allison MD3066 automatic transmission delivers weight savings up to 800 lbs. – which is less than any competitive package for this market," said Cummins Director of Specialty Markets Chuck Goode. "The result is a high-value package for our customers in the 4 x 2 short-haul market."

The ISL is a fully electronic in-line 6-cylinder diesel engine capable of providing ample power and excellent fuel economy, as well as electronics that make servicing the engine easy.
