Freightliner Sprinter Van........

My boss at work just bought a Freightliner Sprinter van with an inline 5-cyl mercedes diesel and Allison Auto tranny. We were talking about it the other day and he stated that according to the owners manual that came with it that the tranny was sealed and needed no fluid change until 400,000 miles? Is that possible, if so, how?
