Weather In NY??

A Job Transfer may land me in the area of Binghamton, NY (sp?), and I was wondering what kind of winters to expect. I currently live in Texas, but have lived in the Midwest for 6 years prior to living here, so I am accustom to winter life, but I have heard that winters up there get pretty bad, Lake effect snow and whatnot. Anyway, any oppinions or insight would be appreciated.
