Baja 1000

So my girlfriend and I were sitting on the couch drinking some beers and watching "From Dust To Glory" at the end she says "that looks fun can we go down and watch" I'm thinking sweet we'll need some new goods on the truck to make it comfortable. Is anybody planning on a baja trip during the race? I beleive the race is November? We would combine this with a windsurfing trip.

Go out to Punta San Carlos south of El Rosario for the windsurfing of your life. Bring a warm wetsuit as the water averages 57* out there. Nice place to use the truck.

By the way it hasbeen going with the Fuel issues, I would not be surprised if Pemex did not sell diesel to Non-Mexican vehicles.

That may not be the only problem, the Bandidos are very Violent, just dont travel @ night and dont stop if you are getting pulled over by an un-marked police car.

I'd stay clear from Mexico @ this point and watch it on HiDef. when the video comes out.

Punto SanCarlos is awesome camped and sailed there before and yes a very fun drive to get of the pavement. Last trip was in my 2nd gen 1/2ton. One reason I bought the current truck was for diesel and these sort of trips. You could be more or less screwed if you couldnt fill up in El Rosario? Any one have more feedback with PEMEX and USA vechicles?

Don't plan on getting ULSD . Don't let the federalis' shake you down , play stupid and don't speak spanish to them and drive the speed limit. Knew Johnny Campbell from San Clemente Kid is hot in that video. I think it's more the border towns with the fuel problems.

Fillup in San Quintin or Jaramillo just south of Colonet just in case El Rosario is out. Get some industrial strength pepper spray and if you camp out there,hide your money but leave a little to payoff the goons if they come around. My wife and I were out there in 1985. Nothing but pristine Baja and good surf with lots of offshore or sideshore wind. A guy pulled in by himself,pulled out the windsurfing equipment and sailed out to the horizon. He then turned around and rode the waves in and all the way into the cove. It was amazing! After a couple of hours of this he humbly came in,loaded up his 2wd Toyota,and waved goodbye. You shouldn't run into any trouble that far out. Drop your air way down too. A cheap,reliable source of insurance is: Discover Baja Travel Club - Mexican Auto Insurance P.S. At the last 1k we had no problem buying fuel anywhere in Baja almost anytime.It will be safer to travel in a caravan if possible even if it is only 2 trucks.I have been lucky usually having some locals with me to keep the police on the up and up.

Had no issues at all last June at the Baja 500. In fact, had a great conversation with a Federale at a taco stand out on Hwy 3 - really nice guy. There were tons of policia/federales in Ensenada for tech/contingency - I've never seen so many different LE agency vehicles in one place in Mexico.

The Federales are the nicest of the Nice, the Policias are the crooks and then the Bandidos are the worse, just look up how many Americans havebeen missing since the Inception of the year in the Border towns, Especially in Tx.
If BoB4X4 goes, I will go with him, he is the Mexican national and speaks fluent Espanol

I think Poblo may be the Blue Blood American that may not speak Spanish that hangs around BoB4X4

His English is impeccable too.
