anyone have a mercedes 300td?

i have an 84 mercedes 300dt, and have a question about rpms at 60 mph. what rpms do theese things turn at 60, the one i have runs close to 3200 at 60, seems high for a diesel, i feel 4 shifts and shifts firm, but seems like there should be an extra gear.
