Doug: What RPM are you leaving at for the Buick to launch so violently? That is an incredible shot of "Painekiller". Mine won't pull the wheels but I can feel the upper control arms smacking the suspension bumper supports. I need a transbrake.......

I don't have a transbrake and anything over about 1400 and mine pushes through the brakes. I have a 6000 RPM stall and would love a transbrake.

I was afraid you'd say that Doug. I just had the transmission rebuilt and seriously contemplated the switch. Then for financial reasons did not. Stupid decision on my part.

Mine is a 1973 Plymouth Scamp that was a completed "restification" project. It had a 318 2bbl and air but I got tired of people making fun of me at cruises. This car was running somewhere in the 17's at that time. Anyhow, I started stripping it down and building the engine up and finally went all race and bought a 1970 340 out of a wrecked Duster. The engine is in pieces right now but as a 10.5:1 engine, it ran 11.504 at 114.876 at Hallsville, Texas. (H435)

Dave.... I might know this car!!.. by any chance was that wrecked Duster a 4-speed car, possibly green in color at one time??...
This sure sounds like a "wicked quick" little Duster that used to run around Kilgore Texas several years ago.

Wingate: Sorry to disappoint. I am the third owner of this car and I found the original purchaser still living in Shreveport, LA where I was stationed at Barksdale AFB at the time. So it is kind of cool that I know the history of the car. Oh wait! you are talking about the car the 340 came out of. You know I have no idea where the 340 came from. I only know it was out of a '70 Duster. I bought it from a friend in Shreveport, $400 for the empty block. Just for the record, I raced at Hallsville, TX, from 1990 to 1995. Started out running Trophy Street at 17 seconds and ended up running Mod ET at 11.5. Nice track Hallsville was. I understand it is no more????????????

It was a pretty decent track when I raced on it. Although some friends complained about that dip in the right lane just before 1000'. They were running 8.90s. compared to my personal best of 11.86. Although my hotrod could tow their car/trailer to and from the track!!!.
I pretty much quit showing up there when the imports and associated rift-raft started appearing. I actually found more honor and mutual respect in the local street racing scene for several years. Then some of the same trash that ruined the track brought too much attention to the street racing and local law enforcement had to step in..
The track got closed, sold, then re-opened... shortly after, there was a shooting or stabbing over some illegal activities happening in the pits.. and it closed permanently. Its really bad that a small group of individuals can ruin something for everybody.

Unreal! That is a shame. I enjoyed Hallsville. Especially the night racing. I don't remember any dip in the right lane. The only oops I do remember was the transition from the concrete to blacktop on one of the lanes gave me a very subtle bump as I crossed it. That's it. I remember one instance where I launched out of the left lane and got sideways after crossing onto the blacktop. That was early on when the car started going faster and I wasn't smart enough to just stay out of it. As soon as I straightened her out I trounced the throttle and got sideways again only worse. So, I've learned to stay out of it and live to fight another day when she comes out squirelly!
