Those on the left like to point out that Syria, Saudi Arabia or Iran were better targets for a war than Iraq. Let's say Bush instead went to war against one of those countries, or even North Korea because of their nukes. What would Iraq have done the moment we attacked those countries? It should be obvious to everyone that Iraq would have become the ally and haven of choice for fleeing soldiers and would have provided them with whatever assistance the Oil for Food money Saddam stole could provide. Those on the left like to say that Iraq "distracted" us from the war on terror and caused us to divert resources from other areas to Iraq. But had we attacked one of the other countries on the axis of evil wouldn't that have distracted us from containing Iraq? Iraq is the lynch-pin among all the countries in the Arab and Persian world. They had the ifrastructure with which to threaten their neighbors and the world, which is why terrorists from the region aligned themselves with Iraq despite theological differences. No matter which country we attacked, it would all lead back to Iraq eventually.
