Edwards and Dr. Strangelove
Last night on TCM they showed "Dr. Strangelove", with VP candidate Sen. Edwards introducing the movie and commenting before/after with the host. There will be 3 other similar spots this month, they are splitting with 2 Dem senators and 2 Repubs each presenting their favorite movies.
Good old Uncle Ted gave the Kerry/Edwards campaign some valuable free pre-election publicity with this stratagem, Edwards did a somewhat better job talking about the movie than he did in the debate but he was still not as articulate as I would have imagined the average trial lawyer to be.
I had not seen Dr. Strangelove in quite a while, I watched it again but once more failed to see why it is considered such a great flick, IMHO "Fail Safe" is a MUCH better movie about a nearly identical scenario (US planes inbound to bomb Russia, with no way of calling them back).
In a somewhat bizarre move, a Republican senator will close out the month by showing "To Kill a Mockingbird", which is not a tremendous pro-conservative movie. Not sure why they wouldn't pick something that advances their political viewpoint a bit better, but I guess it could have been worse - he might have chosen a J-Lo movie or something.
