Iraq... now what?
With the news dominated by Iraq violence, and Iran nosing itself into negotiations (uninvited by the US, and along with, of all people, Syria), I was wondering what TDR members thought we ought to do over there now.
Keep in mind a few things:
- The size of the current US force isn't managing the insurgents
- GW basically destabilized the region into civil war (saddam issues aside)
- Lots of oil over there (potential US interests)
- GW's recent vote of no-confidence by voters
- The war's cost, rising debts ( trade deficit & national debt), and the dollar's slide
- It's place in the 'war' on terror.
I'm bringing this up because TDR members as a whole wanted to march into Iraq, take names, and punch tickets. I was against it, since I figured it inevitable that it would spiral out of control. Now, the general mood is for withdrawl, and as much as I was against invading Iraq, I'm even more against withdrawl because I think it would be disasterous for the U.S..
I'm really interested in hearing opinions from guys who read this forum, but rarely if ever post an opinion because they think they’ll get blasted. I don't think there's a right or wrong answer at this point, but I was interested in what people thought, and I’m tired of reading of gay marriage and evolution.
If you post, I'd like to know if you were for or against a gound invasion in Iraq, your opinion on what to do now, and what did, or hasn't, changed your mind.
