Part of the high cost of health care
In America every year there are over 75 million prescriptions written for anti-depressants
Our nation is ranked somewhere between 35th and 55th in terms of overall healthcare quality and fairness and yet we spend more on health care than any other nation on earth and we are not even in the top 20 as far as longevity is concerned.
A huge portion of morbidity and mortality (death) as well as a big chunk of the money we spend goes towards the cost of prescription drugs for mental health.
Those drugs have side effects that include worse depression, suicide, obesity, sexual dysfunction, sleep disturbance, thinking disorders, exhaustion and memory problems to name a few.
Now not every country resorts to throwing money and drugs at a problem like we do.
