Why can't you manage your private property?

A scenario:

You own an apartment complex. You have taken no government funds to build it, maintain it, or manage it. And it's paid for.

Is there a reason you should not be able to choose who you rent to? Should you have to rent to someone you think is less than desirable as a tenant?

Is it the government's place to sue you to open your private business to their rules?
