Dimmer for the Dimmer switch

Got some pod guages in the over head. The lights are attached to the stock dimmer, but they are just a bit to bright.

I still would like to have full dimmer control over the podded gauges, but the "max brightness" needs to be tuned down a bit.

Anyone done this with radio shack parts? I can't seem to find a generic dimmer switch in any autoparts stores.

Something like this

[ factory Dimmer ] ------------------> (factory gauge cluster lights)
|
|
----- [seconday dimmer] -----> autometer gauges

Once set, i wouldn't need to mess with the seconday dimmer switch since I would just operate the main dimmer.
