Reaction Time...Guages

I was a bit concerned with my egts going down real slow, and I was talking to a guy today about it and he said that some guages have different "reaction times". He seemed to think that Autometer was a slower reacting guage. So I said when I am parked at and im at 400 i could really be at 350, or 300? He said yes it could be a slower reaction time?? Anyone know anything about this?
