PacBrake problems.. Took it off for complete inspection.. butterfly somewhat warped (probably from getting hot, one time it failed to open).. called PacBrake re: parts. "Sorry, no parts available, you'll just have to replace the whole unit" ($5-600)
"I would just like rebuild it!".. "Oh no, you can't take it apart, you'll never get it back together"
Well.. we pulled out the butterfly, the shaft and seals.. and de-carbon-ed it, peened the butterfly and shaft straight, then re-assembled it.
It works, despite the factory-tech's prediction (for how-long, is questionable, considering the heat-damage).. but it really irritates me that a company such as this won't sell you repair parts, but wants to sell a new unit, instead!
When this one finally fails, you can bet that I'll be buying something OTHER than PacBrake!.. Something you can get replacement PARTS for.
Has anyone else had this experience?
Has anyone tried to buy parts for another brand of brake?
