Lightbulb Converter lockup switch reminder light.

I just got done trying to install a small light on the dash to remind me to turn my converter lockup switch off when I'm coming to a stop. Basically, what I did was mount a small 12V light in the middle of the dash on the black trim right in front of the steering wheel. I wired it so that it would get ground from the lockup switch like the trans computer and power from the brake switch. I used the wire coming from my brake switch to my trailer brake box for positive. It works great with the switch on. Just like it's supposed to. The problem is when the switch is off the light is on all the time except when I hit the brake. Hit the brake it goes out. I'm getting power looping back through the trans computer I think. I got tired of messing with the truck (had all kind of things to do today) and just unhooked the positive wire without checking where the power was coming from. Anyway, my thoughts are to add a diode to the ground line to the trans computer after my splice to the light. This would prevent power from looping through backwards. Right? Anyone got any ideas? I think once I get the bugs worked out it will be a neat and useful system.
