ATF+3 vs. ATF+4: What's the difference?
Okay, this is nuts. I bought four quarts of ATF+3 to refill my transfer case after putting it back in the truck following my overdrive unit installation. The guy at the shop said it took 3.5 quarts. I also found a fifth quart leftover from a few months ago when I changed the trans fluid on my '96.
Five quarts later, the thing still wasn't full, so I pulled out the owner's manual to see if it listed a capacity for the case. Didn't find a listing for it, BUT, it did say to use ATF+4. WTF? I've never seen an ATF+4. Just the +3. Is there a difference? Do I get to drain the thing, waste 5 quarts of otherwise pefectly good fluid only to have to go buy 6-7 quarts of ATF+4?
Maybe I'll just put Redline in it... IF I can find an equivelent.
