Sportlights & Sawzalls?

What's this about having to trim with a Sawzall? I just put my Sportlights in (I only have low beams connected from my original 9004s) and they went in pretty simply. They arent perfect...I had to push and pull a bit to get the bolts started. Can someone explain what exactly needs to be cut/trimmed?
