building a sliding platform for bed, need info

Are you tired of crawling up onto the tailgate to access the contents of your truck bed? I sure am, so I checked out the makers of sliding bed platforms and drawers. They are spendy to say the least and in the tradition of getting the best bang for the buck, I decided to go at it and make it instead.

I'm looking for the rail system manufacturing companies, or slides. I think if I can purchase the slides, I can fabricate the rest of the system and make a sliding bed platform that extends out well past the tailgate when activated. Hmmm, activated. Maybe with an electric motor, a big motor. Or air assist??.

I would sure like to know if anyone has purchased this and how it is constructed.
