Amsoil Experience

B.C.(Before Cummins) - 1200mi. week commuting in a Dodge 318ci Ramchager. Used various brand name oils depending on the WallyWorld sale price. Fram oil & air filters. Religiously changes oil & filter @ approx. 3000mi. intervals. Engine teardown @ 305000mi. showed almost no ridge in cylinders and polished bearings with no wear-thru of babbit found. Looks like Dino oil works o.k. to me!! One BIG problem - changing oil every 3 weeks gets real monotonous real quick!

Introduce BigRed - My 1999 CTD Quadcab. Research anything and everything I can find to take advantage of the expected extended life of the Cummins. Make the informed decision to go with Amsoil lubes & filters in the drivetrain.

Engine - started 15W40 Amsoil Synthetic @ 20000mi.
Change filter @ 30000mi. and oil @ 40000mi.
At 45000mi. Decide to add the Amsoil Dual-Remote Bypass system. Afterwards change full-flow filter @ 10000mi. and bypass filter @ 20000mi. intervals. Send oil sample in at each bypass change. Always comes back with all metals, chemicals, etc. weel within tolerance and no change required. Added DD UFM/Drag box and decided to change out oil & start fresh. With 106550mi. on the oil - analysis still indicates within tolerance and o.k. to continue using.

5-spd trans - @ 50000mi. - drained cloudy-looking factory lube, cleaned out bottom of case, added filter kit from Geno's and refilled with (GASP!!) Amsoil 75W90 Sythetic Lube. At 151500mi. - drained lube & changed filter - noticing that the "used" Amsoil with 101500mi. on it was almost as clear & blue as the fresh lube in the bottle.

Rear Differential - @ 50000mi. - drained nasty-looking factory lube, cleaned out bottom of housing & refilled with Amsoil 75W90 lube. At 151500mi. - drained lube & refilled with fresh - again noticing that the "used" Amsoil with 101500mi. on it looked almost as clean as the fresh.

Bottom line - From experience - apparently safe, way-out-there extended lube changes accompanied by a clear conscience (mine at least) in spite of the often biased and sarcastic comments that may be found if you look around a little.

If it looks, smells & acts like a duck - must be one!

"Nuf Said!?!"
