Borgeson steering shaft is in...
Just finished the install
Gotta say the Borgeson shaft is a thing of beauty! Torrington sealed bearings in the universal joints, superb machining work, set screws and lock nuts on all the important fittings.
Install was a piece of cake. Ran about 15 feet of 2" blue masking tape around the steering wheel to keep it in place, removed the bolts from the existing shaft top and bottom and the old shaft came right off.
NOTE - bottom bolt must be completely removed or you'll never get the shaft off the steering box because the bolt runs through a groove in the steering box shaft.
Installation of the Borgeson was just as easy, just prethink where you want the set screws and lock nut pointing for easy access when you tighten them.
THE OLD SHAFT - Yikes!
There was 1/8" of rotational play in the old shaft when it was set to the installed length. I forgot long ago how to do the math, but that 1/8" is probably at least 1/2" at the outer diameter of the steering wheel.
My tail is waggin Gotta go do the test drive. Between the DT tracbar and the Borgeson steering shaft she's gonna steer real sweet
