Question porportioning valve control arm???

how did you guys that have extended the rear brake valve arm do it. i am familiar with the turn buckle and all-thread technique, but how did u mount the socket ends on to mount back to the stock mounts? i was just gonna cut and add some into the stock rod, but i think it is stainless steel, cause it will just barely stick to a magnet, and it is quite bright and shiney even after 40k miles. any insite would be great.
