Synthetic Gear Lube; An Unexpected Bonus
Recently I've been performing the 30K mile service, one step at a time, in between storms. A few days ago I changed the lube in the rear differential, installing a synthetic 75W90 gear lube. I can't believe the change in cold rolling resistance! The truck now readily rolls down the slight slope of my drive when I release the parking brake. I doesn't feel like it is slowing down between gear shifts either. It's too soon to tell if there has been a change in mpg's, but that point might be mute because of the winter blend.
I don't know what the old oil was, other than it really stank...
Just thought I'd share this info.
