Fram Air Hog

I went to Advance Auto Parts today to pick up my Fram Air Hog (P/N PPA9589) and installed it immediately. I gotta say, I was hoping to hear a difference.....When I installed the K&N in my 97 Gasser, you could hear it roar. I noticed no difference in noise, and I noticed no difference in performance. I didn't want to go with a cold air intake, because it's too much money for me right now. Did I waste my money on this OE replacement, or will the difference be subtle, ie fuel consumption improvement, etc..?
