3.42 Rear End for an 03 2500 4 X 4

I orignially posted this on the wrong forum.

Dodge shows and option of a 3.42 rear end with the 6 speed manual transmission for the 2008 truck. Can this be retrofitted to a 2003? While I tow some with my truck and have pulled a 9,000 # Airstream with it, I spend a lot of time on the road with no load. I am reasonably confident that the truck would stay well within its torque range for any load I would pull with the 3.42. I currently have the 3.74.

Has anyone looked into this?
