trans rebuild ?'s

i desperately need to rebuild my trans ... when i take off 1st gear winds up holds at 2500 rpm until i let off the go pedal and then it will shift

any ways my question is is there any cheaper of a way to rebuild the trans and have it still be a reliable, heavy duty trans (compared to stock .. which won't take much) i have called around to different companies and so far for some of the "well known" companies i'm looking at like $4000 - $5000+ i really can not afford this seeing as i am still in school i guess the only way i could is if i sold the truck ... but we all know that won't happen

so like i was saying is there any other alternatives maybe get the upgraded converter and stock valve body maybe a shift kit any advice would be appreciated seeing as the trans needs to be done soon REAL soon thanks again

p.s. hats off to everyone on this site i have learned so much and saved so much money just from reading differant posts and asking questions i just wanted to say thanks!!
