Single Turbo + External Wastegate Question

I was wondering, those of you with single turbos and an external wastegate mounted up.....................

Did you route the excess to the atmosphere or back into the exhaust downpipe......and why? I know where I would route it if I had two turbos but that doesn't look to be a reality anytime soon. Need to get some relief for my Kwikspool B1.
