Bed height

I have a 2000 3/4 4x4 short bed. The rear of these trucks are high enough that it causes problems hooking on to older G/N trailers that dont have adjustable tongs. Is there anyone making a block to lower the rear of them? Can I have the blocks machined down, or will this affect something on the truck?
