unlimited hours???

I know someone hauling gas, LP gas, and anhydrous for a living. Is it so that when LP is in high demand (fall corn drying season, etc.) there is some exception so that the drivers can run unlimited hours??? I realize that those haulers are not typically running interstate, but wondered about the regs. It has been so long since I was over the road, that I haven't paid any attention, and I don't log the occasional trip I make these days. Thanks! Ray
