Fusing Brake Controller

The stock wiring harness on my 2001.5 3500 sweems to use a 40A fuse for the B+ for the brake controller. In the past I've always had a auto-resetting circuit breaker for this circuit. How many folks use the stock harness vs a direct wire to the battery with a circuit breaker. I'm installing an new Jordan Ultima and want to keep my Tekonsha for backup. If I use the stock wiring harness for both it would be easy to switch.
