Towing/Tire Pressures

New to the list, new to Dodge/Cummins:
Bought used '01 HO 6S and am headed to Canada soon.....towing 3000# with 500# in the bed.....stock MichelinLTX tires.......side walls say 80psi/door jam says 80psi, both at max gvw.....which I'm way under.....can I run lower pressures to improve the ride (snow plow prep in Santa Barbara!!!) without a safety problem?
