Help with fuel system

about two weeks ago my lift pump went out. no biggie figured it out ok put a new one on and last week it ran fine. yesterday i was coming home from school and it just shut off on me on the freeway. bled the system on the side of the freeway and made sure it had diesel in it and brought it home.. rebled everything for good measure. took it out for a test drive and it runs fine untill you gas it hard. them it will get to about 2200rpm and stay there and flutter.then when you go to stop it will just die.. need help quick or else i wouldve searched the archives. this truck is by all means not stock its a 94 cummins in an 82 chevy. any suggestions would help.. thanks

Edit... Went out for a coup;le minuites and took it for a drive. brought it home and revved it to about 2400rpm for a couple of minutes. about every 30 seconds without a load it would flutter for about 5 seconds and slow down to about 1700 rpm and them pick itself back up. and the motor only has 10000 miles since the rebuild in 1999
