fuel problem or not ?

My truck died yesterday but not all at once.I stopped for fuel,having felt the truck sputtering a little. Filled up,turned the key,good crank but no start.Tried several min.before using starting fluid.It started and would run ok but no idle.Also had 1/2 power loss.Every time it died it wouldn't start w/o start fluid.
I tried to limp it home.Got 5 miles from home and it died worse.It will start/fire w/ start f. but will not stay running at all.I cracked open #s 1 and 3 injectors and fuel did come out when I cycled the key.Also,when it died my fuel pressure gauge tapped to my FASS pump was reading 9 lbs.
The VP 44 has been remanud.already.I changed the fuel filter the night before.How do I check for injector or injection pump failure?
I shudder to even think about a new pump.Can someone give me some help?
