won't start

Tried to start up the cummins this morning and it wouldn't even turn over. I thought it was odd the overhead light did not come on. Is it common to get a bad battery? Not long ago I had a post about the radio and was told to check the battery. Had to ride to work in my neighbors Ford with a gas engine, mine is in the driveway still. Should I take it to the dealer or just go buy some good batteries?
