Diesels don't run on gas

'06 truck that belongs to my buddy, late last night, tired and groggy he fills an empty tank with regular unleaded. Figures out what he did when the truck starts to lurch and shut it down immediately. Off to the mechanic tonight so no prognosis yet. Anyone ever hear of a boner like this? What kind of damage? Keep you posted. J.
