IP problems

Hi I have a 2001 2500 with 176k miles and I recently lost power (I live in a warm climate, Florida). I took it to the Dodge dealership/repair place, it sent two codes P0251, for fuel valve feedback failure, and another one that they said stood for IP failure (the tech didn't remember code for that one). The dealership told me I need a new IP and also they will have to replace the overflow valve and that this would be ~$2500. So naturally I wanted to look into what this problem really is and what causes it. I have found that other things can be wrong with the truck and also if this is the problem with the truck after all, then I need to look into other things to prevent this from happening next time. I can crank the truck so I believe this means the LP does works somewhat, but the truck will not go beyond an idle, most of the time. It still has its moments where there won’t even be a problem upfront, and the check engine light will even go off. These problems occurred in less then 12 hours (I was going to check into the problem once I returned home). I do not have a fuel pressure gauge to see if my LP is supplying my IP with enough fuel/pressure. I also do not have any mods to the engine (power chips) to throw the map off for the P0251 code. What I am writing about is recommendations on what to do. Currently I am in a position where I do not need to drive as much (in college) so I have time to fiddle with a LP and fuel gauge installation, maybe new filters although they shouldn't be bad atm. I can get parts from the dealership at a discount and get a friend to help install if that does seem to be necessary. Also I have original stock LP and IP. Please let me know if I am misusing any terms or not providing enough, or the right information. This problem is new to me, I learned everything about it today, and also my communication skills are not the best .
