Diesel tank metal shield come off

There is a protective metal shield that is attached to the inner side of the fuel tank. Part of it has come off. Actually it was dragging under truck and I had to rip it off. This metal looks like it shields the heat generated from the shafts / exhaust from the side of the fuel tank. Do I need to worry about getting this reinstalled any time soon. I am guessing it may heat the fuel up some and cause the fuel to become hotter than normal. On the road right now. Thanks for your help. Donna (2007 3500 dually pulling 27' Airstream TT)
