Tranny Clutch Problems...Help!

Today Max (95 3500 2wd) had a big problem...pulled to a stop lite and truck started shakin and vibratin all over and wouldnt go into gear so i shut it off and put it in gear and fired it up. It went fine to the next lite and started vibrating again and then a loud bang and nothing. If you push the clutch in, everything sounds fine, but when you let it out it will not go and just makes a terrible noise. I dragged it to a friends shop and there it sits...I will get a chance to tear into it tomorrow, but I could use some help. To me it sounds like the tranny (NV4500), but I guess it might be the clutch (SBC Con-O). Any advice or help with finding parts would be appreciated.
